BOOK YOUR SAUNA EXPERIENCE HERE

Welcome to Our Sauna!  Just finished building this in December 2025!

A sauna session goes beyond the physical—it’s a time to nurture your mental and emotional well-being. After your session, pause to appreciate the clarity and relaxation it brings. Use this time for intentional practices like journaling, meditation, or simply quiet reflection. These moments allow you to integrate the calming effects of your sauna experience into your day, creating a deeper connection between your body and mind.

CHANGING ROOM  Within the Sauna is a changing room with places to take off your boots or shoes and hang your clothes.  Towels are provided and are on the shelves.  There is no shower in the winter at the sauna, but we provide a washbasin with water crock and wash cloths for an old fashioned “sponge bath”.   There is a lovely antique carved bench in the changing room to sit and cool off.   It is important to cool down naturally before transitioning to colder temperatures.

SHOWER  We request that you shower before you come to the Sauna —- not only for personal cleanliness but also to maintain the integrity of the space. A quick rinse removes sweat, oils, and any products like lotions or perfumes that can leach into the wood or intensify in the heat. This step ensures the sauna remains a clean, welcoming environment while preserving the longevity of its materials.  (Note: If you didn't get a chance to shower, please do a sponge bath before going into the sauna).

TOWELS PLEASE In the Sauna, using a towel to sit or lie on is a simple yet essential practice. It protects the wood from sweat and ensures a clean, comfortable surface for the next user.  So PLEASE — always sit on a towel, never on the bare wood.

MODERATION IS THE KEY  Saunas are incredibly therapeutic, but your time should be limited to 10-20 minutes at a time, allowing your body to reap the benefits without risking dehydration, dizziness or overheating. Overstaying not only reduces the positive effects but can also leave you feeling fatigued rather than rejuvenated.

NO TOUCHING EQUIPMENT  The heater will be started before your arrival and set to 170 degrees which we find to be an optimum temperature.  PLEASE DO NOT fiddle with control panel — do not change the temperature or use the timer.  The only button you need to know is the OFF button —- turn OFF when leaving.

SAUNA STEAM —- MOST IMPORTANT:  Pouring a bit of water over the hot rocks will create a beautiful steam and intensify the heat.  It is glorious.  HOWEVER, do not ladle more than three or four scoops of water over the rocks during your stay or you will DESTROY the heater!   Please respect this rule!  We cannot afford to replace this very expensive heater.

LEAVING:  Put used towels in the hamper.  Turn the sauna to OFF.   Close the Sauna door.  Be sure the exterior door is closed firmly so it doesn’t blow open.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:

BATHROOM  There is a bathroom in the Bakery.  Come through the screened porch and find the bathroom to the rear.  Be sure to close the door firmly so it doesn’t blow open (causing our water lines to freeze up!)

POST SAUNA:  A great sauna session doesn’t end when you step out. What you do afterward is just as important for recovery and relaxation.

COOL DOWN GRADUALLY:  After the heat and relaxation of a sauna session, it’s essential to let your body adjust gradually. Moving immediately to a cold environment, like a plunge or shower, can shock your system and disrupt the balance your sauna session has created. Instead, allow yourself a few moments to cool naturally before transitioning to colder temperatures.

HYDRATE AND REPLENISH:  Saunas are fantastic for detoxification and relaxation, but rehydration is essential to restore balance, support circulation and maintain energy levels after your session. So drink water post sauna!

WHERE IT IS LOCATED:

Our Sauna is located at the Main Compound at 88 Cemetery Road.  The entrance is marked by two stone pillars and an old wagon with a sign that says North River Hobby Farm.   Stop and park at the first building on your left where you will see Bakery and Shop signs.  The Sauna is a separate small structure the rear of the Bakery / Shop.

From our Shields Road Cabins:  go back down Shields Road and take a right on 13th Lake Road.  Take your next right on Cemetery Road.  Go up about a half mile.  We are at the top of the hill next to the historic cemetery.
